SolarWinds Updates Orion, Introduces New Free Tool to Give IT Pros Dymanic Control Over Enterprise Application Monitoring

Latest Version of Orion Application Performance Monitor and New WMI Monitor Offer Users More Breadth and Flexibility to Manage Critical Applications, Identifying Issues Before Business and End User Impact

AUSTIN, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 08/11/09 -- SolarWinds® (NYSE: SWI), a leading provider of powerful, simple and affordable network management software to more than 85,000 customers worldwide, today announced additions to the company's product offering designed to give IT professionals broader and more dynamic control over application monitoring, enabling them to troubleshoot problems before those problems have critical business impact, such as slowed productivity or, potentially, lost revenue. The announcement includes a new free tool, SolarWinds WMI Monitor, and the latest version of Orion® Application Performance Monitor (APM) -- already the second most popular module in the Orion network management family.

"Often, the biggest challenge with application monitoring comes from the ever-changing application landscape -- new applications, new instances, different versions and platforms. With the latest release of Orion APM, we are giving IT professionals a product that has the ability to stay ahead of that curve -- offering the features and community integration needed to monitor today's dynamic enterprise application environments." - Kenny Van Zant, SVP and chief product strategist, SolarWinds.

Orion Application Performance Monitor (APM)

For over a year, Orion APM has offered SolarWinds' powerful, agentless monitoring, alerting, and reporting capabilities for applications. The third version of the product takes easy monitoring to a new level -- incorporating automatic discovery and a broad assortment of out-of-the-box templates, with deep integration to community-generated resources on thwack®. Between the application support that Orion APM offers and the hundreds of templates available from the community, users will be able to find and monitor virtually any application as soon as it is added to their environment.

Plus, as a module of Orion Network Performance Monitor (NPM), Orion APM presents application monitoring data alongside comprehensive network performance information, giving IT and network professionals a complete picture of network health that is intuitive, unified, and easy to understand.

What's New with Orion APM v3

-- Orion APM's Application Discovery Engine automatically scans network servers, discovers applications, and assigns out-of-the-box templates including Microsoft® Exchange, IIS, Active Directory®, and Apache. This step-by-step engine also makes it easier for users to monitor unique legacy applications that can't b e monitored through other solutions.

-- With the integrated Community Content Sync, users can directly browse, import, and upload application monitor templates created by members of thwack, SolarWinds' 25,000+ strong network management community. This time-saving feature allows users to quickly begin monitoring applications without creating one-off, custom monitors. Orion APM also alerts users when new templates are posted.

-- The latest version of Orion APM also offers improved end-user Quality of Experience (QoE) measurement through out-of-the-box SaaS monitoring and support for HTTP, HTTPS, DNS, Microsoft SQL Server®, Oracle®, and other ODBC databases.

Where many organizations get into trouble, however, is that they try to have a broad and deep knowledge in each of these areas. This is a huge blow to an organization's productivity. Never mind that we might not know what the future holds for cryptocurrencies and how much values will fluctuate or even how the process of mining a coin could cost as much as the value of the coin itself - cryptocurrency mining is a hot industry and shows no signs of slowing down. However, energy consumption to mine cryptocurrency is one of the biggest issues facing this industry. Burning huge amounts of electricity isn't incidental to cryptocurrency, it's basically embedded in the core of "mini...
