2012 F5 Agility Awards: Customers

MLB Network and Rackspace Hosting have been named winners of the 2012 F5 Agility Awards for customers.

  • MLB Network

MLB Network is Major League Baseball’s national cable television network, telecasting live games and original studio programming to approximately 70 million homes throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico. MLB Network relies on F5 technology to support marquee events, including All-Star Games and the World Series, providing load balancing services and securing connections to MLB Network’s internal environment. With F5 BIG-IP® Local Traffic Manager (LTM®), MLB Network has been able to achieve flawless implementation and deliver reliable service for over three years.

“F5 is a go-to technology partner for MLB Network,” said Cindy Cortell, Director of IT for MLB Network. “During the initial launch of the network, we relied on F5 products to ensure that our on-air and mission-critical applications were live and working as intended. F5 solutions have been easy to configure, deploy, and implement, and we’ve enjoyed 100 percent uptime with no issues. We’re pleased to accept this award as it recognizes MLB Network’s record-setting launch and our ability to ensure the best possible experience for viewers.”

  • Rackspace Hosting

Rackspace Hosting is a service leader in cloud computing. Given that many of Rackspace’s customers have both dedicated managed hosting and cloud hosting environments, Rackspace aimed to create a solution that bridged both environments. With the help of F5’s Application Delivery Networking platform, Rackspace developed a hybrid service called RackConnect. With RackConnect, customers receive the performance and security of dedicated hosted servers, while allowing customers the flexibility to “jump” to the cloud to scale an application when needed. Using BIG-IP LTM and F5’s iControl® functionality, Rackspace was able to reduce the development time of RackConnect to only three months.

“RackConnect is more than a new service offering for Rackspace—it has become a differentiator for us in the market,” said Toby Owen, Solution Line Leader for Hybrid Clouds at Rackspace. “Thanks to the flexibility of the F5 platform, we’ve created a unique user experience which has allowed our customers to build new and innovative applications for their customers. We look forward to building on the success of RackConnect with ongoing innovation on the F5 platform.”
