The Inc. 500|5000 has been compiled annually since 1982. According to Inc., "Just to make it onto the Inc. 500 this year, a company had to grow more than 918% since the start of 2010. The average company on the list grew a mind-boggling 2,900 percent." This year’s list measures revenue growth from 2009 through 2012. To qualify, companies had to be founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2009. They also had to be U.S. based, privately held, independent (i.e., not subsidiaries of larger companies) and for-profit.
