According to Market Publishers Ltd., the worldwide mHealth market is anticipated to be worth around $9 billion in 2014. By the end of the same year, mHealth could represent approximately $250 billion in yearly world healthcare cost-savings. Moreover, the market is likely to record a 40 percent compound annual growth rate through 2020. Read Original Content

The Food and Drug Administration announced that among the rapidly growing number of mobile health apps on the market, it would only regulate those posing the greatest risks to consumers.  The agency intends to “exercise enforcement discretion,” according to a release, meaning it will not enforce requirements under the Federal Drug & Cosmetic Act for the majority of mobile health apps, as they pose minimal risk to consumers.  Read Original Content

Then M7 chip in the new iPhone 5s is a coprocessor, and companion to the A7 chip, which is dedicated entirely to continuously measuring motion by utilizing the iPhone’s built-in accelerometer, gyroscope and compass.  It works independently of the A7, the iPhone’s primary processor, but can tell when you are walking, running or driving.  This is valuable data that can be accessed by third-party health and fitness apps and developers are beginning to incorporate this functionality into their own applications.  Read Original Content

MedTech National, a health IT company, has acquired Cylliance's medical billing and practice management assets for an undisclosed sum. Medtronic, a medical device manufacturer, has acquired Cardiocom, a provider of remote patient monitoring and care coordination systems, for $200 million.  Read Original Content

Wearable connected device revenues will grow to more than $6 billion in 2018, according to new findings from ABI Research. The survey tracked four areas: sports, fitness and wellness; home monitoring devices; remote patient monitoring; and professional (on-site) healthcare.  Read Original Content

Venture capital continues to pour into startups looking to cash in on the mHealth explosion. From January to August of this year, 50 mobile health companies secured $310 million in VC money compared to $229 million raised by 42 firms during the same period in 2012, according to a blog citing a recent research report by Rutberg & Co.  Read Original Content

At the Health 2.0 conference in Santa Clara, California, a slew of big data demos kicked it off. They showed a handful of different ways data analytics can change healthcare — whether the data comes from insurance claims or electronic health records.
