The Mobile Commerce News Weekly is an online newsletter made up of the most interesting news, articles and links related to mobile commerce and marketing, mobile payments, mobile money, e-wallets, mobile banking, mobile ads and mobile security that I run across each week.  I am specifically targeting market size and market trend information.

Mobile commerce is booming for Australian group buying site, CatchOfTheDay, with the firm reporting that over half of the purchases on the site are made through mobile devices.  Celebrating its seventh birthday, CatchOfTheDay’s parent company, The Catch Group revealed that around 62 percent of the firm’s purchases are made through tablets or smartphones.  Read Original Content

Facebook is using videos to encourage consumers to install advertisers’ mobile apps.  Facebook ads promoting the installation of mobile apps appear to mobile users in the news feed on the social network’s app and mobile site. Google is losing the battle against falling ad prices, but still winning the online advertising war.  In its earnings report, the company revealed the decline of a key pricing metric has once again accelerated, as its cost-per-click fell eight percent from a year earlier.  The reason is a surge in mobile ads, which cost less per unit and have lower click rates than those served onto desktop computers.  Read Original Content

Opera Mediaworks has published their Q3 report on the state of mobile advertising and Apple has landed on the very top.  iOS grabbed 44 percent of total impressions and 50 percent of all revenue. This substantial lead is due to the success of the iPad but even when removed, the iPhone leads Android by a small margin. In a global study conducted by business software maker SAP, researchers found emerging markets, such as South Africa, Saudi Arabia and China, are adopting mobile commerce at a much higher rate than mature markets, such as the United States, United Kingdom and Japan.  Read Original Content

According to research from VoucherCodes.co.uk, the U.K. leads the way in Europe when it comes to m-commerce with 10 percent now using a mobile device as their primary shopping tool.  A third of U.K. consumers have researched future purchases on their mobile device, 24 percent compare prices while in-store, and nearly a quarter (22 percent) of U.K. consumers use their device to make a purchase. The mobile retail audience in Europe has seen some pretty tremendous growth over the past year, at least in the five biggest markets across the continent.  In the three months ending in August of this year, the European mobile retail audience was 31 million, an increase of over 43 percent from the same period the year before, according to data from comScore, which was released on Monday.  Read Original Content

The SpendSmart Payments Company, a provider of prepaid payment programs, announced it has agreed to acquire SMS Masterminds ("SMS Masterminds"), an innovator in the rapidly growing mobile marketing industry. SMS Masterminds provides SMS-based Mobile Loyalty Solutions primarily to small and medium sized businesses, addressing a worldwide mobile advertising market forecast to reach $11.3 billion in 2014, according to eMarketer.  Read Original Content
