Chinese firms are emerging as strong players in the global smartphone market, with Huawei overtaking LG Electronics to claim the number three spot in terms of global sales volume in the third quarter.  Read Original Content

Most of the mobile Internet users in Southeast Asia are those who recently started their career, are educated, and have high spending power. Those are among the findings of a new survey by mobile advertising network Vserv.mobi. Conducted with the Mobile Marketing Association, the study surveyed people in six Southeast Asian countries – Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. It found more than 50 percent of mobile Internet users are those age under 24 years old and over 60 percent of mobile Internet users in Southeast Asia are men.  Read Original Content

Unicef China has launched a mobile application that enables its users to locate breastfeeding rooms in public places in different cities.  The mobile application is part of the "10 Square Metres of Love" breastfeeding advocacy campaign launched by Unicef and the National Centre for Women and Children' s Health under the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention in June 2013, Xinhua reported.  Read Original Content

IT spending in the Asia-Pacific region is forecast to rise 5.5 percent in 2014 to reach $767 billion and hit $933 billion in 2017, according to Gartner research. Japan's NEC said it fell into the red in the six months to September because of lower sales and losses on its exit from the smartphone business. NEC had merged its mobile phone handset operations with those of Casio Computer and Hitachi to fight off rising competition.
