Credit unions have turned up the heat on Congress to pass cyber security legislation after Michaels Stores Inc. last week confirmed that a data breach affected about three million credit and debit cards used at its shops. In a letter to congressional leaders on Friday, the National Association of Federal Credit Unions said the breach at the Irving, Texas-based arts-and-crafts retailer, followed by the high-profile breaches at Target Corp. and Neiman Marcus Group Ltd., should make the approval of cyber security legislation a priority for Congress.
