Former Oracle Executive Mark Iwanowski Named Open Source Storage Chairman

Open Source Storage, the visionaries and creators of enterprise data storage solutions, announced today that former Oracle executive, Mark Iwanowski has been named chairman. A veteran of the technology sector for the past two decades, Iwanowski has focused on developing IT services, venture capital investments, mergers and acquisitions and corporate transformations.

As former senior vice president global IT and CIO for Oracle Corporation, Iwanowski helped build Oracle’s On Demand (SaaS/cloud) services using open source solutions for its IT infrastructure. His team consolidated 95 regional data centers to one Global Tier IV data center, resulting in a savings of $1 billion. He was also a member of Oracle’s product development committee that reviewed all acquisitions and was involved in the integration of over $15 billion of acquisitions.

Established more than a decade ago, Open Source Storage re-launched in December 2013 with a family of storage solutions and support services. The company, which works with start-ups, Fortune 500 corporations and government agencies, designs, installs and maintains enterprise datacenters built on open source software and open standards components to deliver high performance scalable solutions, reducing the total costs of data ownership by an average of 30 percent. These savings are possible by eliminating the software licensing fees and hardware costs associated with proprietary data storage solutions.

“Mark Iwanowski is a well-known leader in the open source community having been one of the first to deploy an open source solution at Oracle and brings a wealth of experience in joining our dynamic Open Source Storage team,” said Eren Niazi, founder, creator of the open source storage movement, and CEO of Open Source Storage. “His industry knowledge, understanding of our technology and services, and expertise in cloud services and IT are unmatched, and his expertise will be a great contribution to our organizational growth.”

Prior to Open Source Storage, Iwanowski served as managing director with Trident Capital, focusing on investments in clean tech and IT, software and communications. He also co-managed a transformational outsourcing business at SAIC, which included large dollar agreements with San Diego County and Level 3 Communications. In addition, Iwanowski had held executive positions with Raytheon and Honeywell, and was a principal in two successful start-ups.

“I’ve worked in the open source market for years and recognize that as memory and hardware commoditizes, there is an industry demand for software to manage data access that is valuable for the enterprise,” said Iwanowski. “Open Source Storage provides businesses with the solutions and services that make real time data analytics a reality at a fraction of the cost. As the new chairman, I am proud to help the company expand its footprint in this evolving industry.”

Iwanowski holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree in engineering from California Institute of Technology and a MBA from National University.
