Oracle announced that Oracle Application Server 10g, a key component of Oracle Fusion Middleware, together with Oracle Database 10g, set a record-breaking result in the SPECjAppServer2004 industry standard benchmark by delivering the highest performance per core across all platforms and application servers(1). Surpassing the best per core performance of IBM WebSphere(2) and BEA WebLogic(3), these results continue Oracle's excellence in setting world records in Java 2 Platform Enterprise Edition (J2EE) application server benchmarks.

Oracle Application Server 10g coupled with Oracle Database 10g, achieved an impressive performance result of 874.17 SPECjAppServer2004 JOPS@Standard (jAppServer Operations Per Second). Both the application server and database machines were running on an HP Integrity rx2660 server with two dual-core Intel Itanium 2 1.6 GHz processors and the HP-UX 11i v.3 operating system. The winning combination of Oracle Application Server 10g with Oracle Database 10g surpassed the best IBM WebSphere Application result in performance per core by more than seven percent. In addition, this remarkable Oracle SPECjAppServe2004 result outperformed the best BEA WebLogic result in performance per core by 19 percent.

Over the past five years, Oracle has submitted record application server benchmarks on a broad range of hardware and software platforms. Oracle is the performance and price/performance leader in multiple SPECjAppServer 2001(4) and SPECjAppServer2002(5) benchmark categories and also holds the world records for best performance and price/performance in the ECperf(6) benchmark of J2EE application servers reported in July 2002.

SPECjAppServer2004 is a client/server benchmark for measuring the performance of a representative J2EE application and each of the components that make up the application environment, including hardware, application server software, JVM software, database software, JDBC drivers, and the system network. The workload is an application that emulates information flow among an automotive dealership, manufacturing, supply chain management, and an order/inventory system.
