BEA Provides Governance Technology for Sabre Holdings' Service-Oriented Architecture

BEA AquaLogic Enterprise Repository 3.0 Supports Sabre's Move to the Next Generation of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA)

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BEA Systems, Inc. , a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced that Sabre Holdings, a global leader in travel services, relies on BEA AquaLogic(R) Enterprise Repository 3.0 to govern Sabre Web Services which manages 36 million daily transactions for air, car, hotel and other travel accommodations. Sabre provides travel and transportation information to more than 50,000 travel agencies, major travel suppliers, Fortune 500 companies and travel web sites around the globe. Sabre deployed BEA AquaLogic Enterprise Repository as its central repository for managing, governing and distributing Sabre Web Services to its worldwide network of travel customers. In addition, BEA AquaLogic Enterprise Repository is helping Sabre manage its entire inventory of internal services, components, frameworks and other software assets.

"BEA AquaLogic Enterprise Repository has helped us promote and govern our SOA assets and understand where and what services are being used. This enables us to analyze market trends to optimize product delivery and continue meeting our customers' needs," said Bob Prevenslik, director, Web Services, Sabre Holdings. "As we take Sabre Web Services and SOA to the next level, we are continuing to grow governance along with it and see BEA AquaLogic Enterprise Repository as a critical enabler to success."

BEA AquaLogic Enterprise Repository has enabled the quick and dramatic customer adoption of Sabre Web Services -- the largest web services network today. As Sabre migrates to its next-generation SOA, it will rely upon BEA AquaLogic Enterprise Repository as a standard component of its enterprise SOA governance model to enforce architecture, reuse, policy and lifecycle control.

"Sabre continues to innovate and leverage SOA to drive greater efficiencies in their business. Importantly, they understand that by instituting good governance practices and technology, they can optimize their SOA investment for business benefits," said Paul Patrick, vice president and chief architect of BEA Systems. "We're very pleased to continue to partner with Sabre by providing them with our leading governance technology and by supporting the evolution of their SOA projects."

BEA AquaLogic Enterprise Repository has enabled Sabre to: -- Accelerate adoption of Sabre Web Services offerings -- Track usage of services and assets to determine value -- Use flexible categorizations to organize services according to the Open Travel Alliance (OTA) standards -- Make Sabre Web Services the single point of access to Sabre for application developers -- View robust information and metadata about each service and asset, including descriptions, Web service definition language, schemas, design documents, sample payloads, service use pattern documents and more -- Allow customers and internal teams to use the Developer Resource Center to browse, learn about, select and reuse Sabre Web Services

IoT & Smart Cities Stories
When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
